Meet Tom
Thomas’ passion for the law began at a young age, as a LGBTQ+ youth, which motivated him to advocate for change. Thomas is passionate about civil rights, and specifically the devastating consequences that discrimination has upon the oppressed.
Thomas began his career working as a financial crimes investigator at 3 Fortune 500 eCommerce and digital payments corporations. For 10 years, he saw the devastation that financial fraud and identity theft have on victim's lives - with little recourse through the Criminal Justice System. Inspired to help others, Thomas attended the University of North Dakota School of Law with a passion for using his education to advocate for others and participated in various anti-discrimination initiatives, including participating as a tester for the High Plains Fair Housing Center which yielded the first federal housing discrimination case in North Dakota. After earning his Juris Doctorate degree, he pursued a Master of Laws degree at the prestigious University of Washington School of Law, William H. Gates Hall. Thomas participated in the Technology Law and Public Policy Clinic, which yielded Senate Bill 5376 to protect residents of Washington from privacy-related issues which are extremely common techniques that fraudsters use in identity theft, fraud, and online scams.
In 2019, and just a few days before taking the bar exam in Washington, Thomas was a victim of an impersonation scam when his phone number was spoofed and being used to scam victims across the country. After having a panic attack during a very stressful time studying for the bar exam, Law enforcement let him down and took no meaningful action, which prompted him to take action on his own & advocate for victims of similar schemes.
As a Utah native Tom enjoys fishing, hiking, exploring Utah’s mountains and wilderness, landscape photography and spending time with his family.
Tom is a licensed bar member in Utah, Washington, Texas and the U.S. Federal District Court of Utah
